Small Tent
The Mighty River Domain has 60 powered and 80 non powered sites. We welcome tents, caravans, campervans and motorhomes. These sites can be hired individually or in blocks during events and non-event times.
Pricing
Pricing as of 1st July 2024:
Powered site: Adults $24.00 per person per night
Child (2 - 12 years) $19.00 per person per night. Under 2 free
Non powered site: Adults $22.00 per person per night
Child ( 2 - 12 years) $19.00 per person per night. Under 2 free
Please note that you will have the choice of booking the top OR lower camp only with staff allocating the exact campsite. Requests should be made for specific sites in the 'special request' area in the online reservation system.
*Minimum charge of 3 adults per site per night during events. Please check our event calendar for key event dates.
Site Amenities
Two amenity blocks with toilets and showers
A kitchen with two ovens, a single chest freezer, a double door fridge, a hot water unit and four sinks
A laundry facility is located on site, laundry costs are $4 per load
A dump station and plenty of water taps for refilling tanks
Only basic camping facilities are provided. You will need to bring all your cooking equipment and linen, and everything else that is required for an enjoyable camping experience.
Check in time for our camping is from 2.00pm - 7.00pm daily. Each camping site is 7x8 Metres. All your belongings (including vehicles, awnings etc) MUST be within the allocated site space. If you require additional space, please book an extra site.
All campers must be checked in by 7.00pm - to arrange a late arrival please contact the site office. Every effort is made to accommodate your preferred camping site however site numbers may be changed at the last minute -please ensure you check in to the site office on arrival to confirm your site number.
A single sites accommodate one large or two small tents (see picture) plus a car. Extra Large tents such as marquees (see picture) will not accommodate a car on the same site so another site would need to be booked. Caravans, campervans and motorhomes will be dependent on the size.
Electricity can only be connected through an approved isolating transformer or RCD Safety switch. Caravans must have current electrical warrant of fitness and comply with LPG gas regulations.
Please sure your tent or gazebo pegs do NOT exceed 300mm to ensure you don't hit any power or water pipes! Please check with the site office first. Please cover all your tent pegs to ensure safety for all guests.
Marquees over 100m2 will require consent from Waipa District Council. Please contact the council directly for this consent. It will be necessary to provide the Mighty River Domain site office with certificates of compliance for all temporary structures.
Our quiet time for all accommodation Is between 8pm and 7am

Please note that the Karapiro Dam is closed for the foreseeable future as the Dam undergoes significant maintenance. Please plan alternative routes to visit us during this time. If you are visiting from the north, come through Cambridge and Leamington, jump onto Maungatautari Road, and you'll find us (about 5km from the town belt). If you're coming from the south, turn onto Maungatautari Road off of SH1 (turn off to Horahora Domain) and follow the road to find us (about 15km from the turn off).
